We’ve been busy busy here at Pretty Things Boutique with our in house clothing line the last month and half. We’ve gone from 15% of our stock being produced on location to over 60% of inventory made in store. This is very exciting news for us as it has been long time dream of store owner and designer Cadence Macmichael to develop this line to sell in the boutique.

Seamstresses working away on new half circle skirts that will be ready for next week

100% of the production of the Pretty Things Boutique clothing line is done at shop location at 5240 Blowers Street. From pattern drafting (which is all done by hand) to sewing the completed garment is done right in the store from Monday to Friday during regular business hours – you may even hear the machines going if you pop into our shop while we’re sewing! We currently have a sewing staff of 5 local seamstresses working part time along side store owner (who also cuts and sews many of the garments as well).

New items are being created weekly so there are constantly new items being added to the sales floor, many of which sell out faster than we can advertise online so if you are in the Halifax area make sure to check with us regularly to see what styles we have in stock. Many items are limited edition which makes them even more special because once many of these fabrics are gone they will not be produced again exactly the same.

Currently our sizes run from XXS to XL (which is roughly a size 4 to 14) but we’ve had a lot of people ask us if we are going to do a plus size line for our store and the answer is yes! Definitely! We’ll be doing a mix and match collection of separates and basic dresses to start as we develop the line and will move forward into more items in the future. Sizes will range from 16 to 26 and we expect to have some of these items produced over the next few weeks so be sure to stay tuned we’ll be slowly adding pieces to inventory as we develop them. Don’t worry we’ll alert you on the new arrivals via our Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr accounts!

On Sunday June 24th have your hair and makeup done like the pretty pinup princess you are and have the photos to prove it! Hair and makeup by Pretty Things Boutique owner and makeup artist Cadence Macmichael, photography by The Stoodio’s Stoo Metz at Aperture Studio (conveniently located in downtown Halifax).

With your package you will receive:

- Five professionally edited digital photographs
- Retro pinup makeup (including false eyelash application)

Pretty Things Boutique is currently looking to hire experienced sewers to work at their retail location (5240 Blowers Street). Schedule is Mondays to Wednesdays for eight hour shifts and is paid by piece work rate by project.

Ideal candidate should have experience with straight stitch and sergers and hopefully cover stitch machines as well. Must bring samples of your work to show us and be able to demonstrate ability upon request.

Pretty Things Boutique at Atlantic Fashion Week

This past week Pretty Things Boutique was honored to participate for the first time in the 2012 Atlantic Fashion Week opening night on Thursday June 8th in the New Designers Show Case at the Halifax Casino. We had a wonderful evening and received so much support for our budding new hand made clothing line. Thank you to Angela Campagnoni, director of Atlantic Fashion Week and City Models for inviting us to participate.

On Friday June 9th, Pretty Things Boutique donated one of our own made in store designs (our cowl neck pencil dress in red sparkle knit, available in store for $79) to the Atlantic Fashion Week Red Dress Auction with all proceeds being donated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. We are happy to announce that the dress donated by Pretty Things Boutique was able to raise $225 for this amazing cause. A great big thank you to everyone who attended the event and bid on this item!

Retro Pinup Makeup Workshop

On Friday June 22nd from 8pm to 10pm come learn how to apply perfect pinup girl makeup as taught by Pretty Things Boutique owner and trained makeup artist Cadence Macmichael. This is a great workshop for those of you who are looking for a great classic every day look to wear but is also great for brides who want to have a classic retro look on their wedding day.

Topics will include:
Creating flawless finished skin
Shaping and coloring brows
Classic “cat eye” (winged) liquid eyeliner
Applying fake eye lashes
Beautiful blush
How to bump up this makeup for a night out or as a bridal look

Additionally there will be a Q&A section at the end of the workshop so you can find out the answers to many of your beauty questions! Each attendee will get an info package, hair flower, free samples, and product coupons to take home with them.
